COLLECTIVE IMPACT

The Kempner Fund seeks to partner with funders to advance its mission. We do this through shared learning, co-funding, and collective impact efforts.

Galveston County Recovery Fund

The Galveston County Recovery Fund is committed to strategically deploying private philanthropy to assist in recovery efforts for the people who call Galveston County home. Comprised of a network of foundations and individual donors, the Kempner Fund contributes annually to this fund, and in the event of a disaster, deploys additional dollars.

The Galveston County Recovery Fund’s most recent activations include the response to 2024’s Hurricane Beryl, the COVID-19 pandemic, and 2021’s Winter Storm Uri. United Way of Galveston serves as a partner, fiscal agent, and fund administrator of the Recovery Fund.

Galveston Roundtable of Foundations

The Kempner Fund is a participating member of the Galveston Roundtable of Foundations, a coalition of philanthropic foundation trustees and staff that was founded more than 20 years ago to share information on community needs and opportunities, share educational opportunities, and engage collectively for the benefit of Galveston.

Vision Galveston

What started as a collective impact project among philanthropy and community in 2018 became a plan to empower the citizens of Galveston to define a vision for its future. In 2019, Vision Galveston galvanized the community by asking what kind of city it wanted to be and what it needs to do to get there. This innovative community outreach process engaged over 8,500 Islanders who are a diverse representation of the Galveston community.

Today, Vision Galveston is an organization that brings people together to build the future that Galvestonians envisioned for the Island. Residents want to advance quality of life and make sure that Galveston preserves the best of its current and historical assets while striving for a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable future. The Kempner Fund is a proud collaborator and seed funder in this work.
