Eligibility and Criteria

The Kempner Fund welcomes proposals that further the Fund’s priorities and use resources creatively to improve quality of life primarily for Galveston, Texas residents. Organizations seeking to apply are encouraged to carefully read and review the Kempner Fund’s priorities, program areas, and elibility information.

UPDATE: The Kempner Fund will not be accepting applications in 2024.
Eligibility & Criteria
  • Eligible applicants are USA-based 501 (c)(3) organizations and may include non-profit, governmental, and faith-based organizations
  • The Kempner Fund primarily supports proposals to Galveston-based or Galveston-serving organizations
  • The Kempner Fund only supports proposals in one of its 7 program areas. To learn more about the Fund’s program areas, read: Program Areas
  • The Kempner Fund receives many more requests for funding that it is able to support. The selection process is competitive and even strong proposals may not be fully funded or receive funding.

 

  • Please note the following: The Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund will not fund activities that discriminate based on race, ethnicity, color, religion, sex, national origin, immigration status, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
  • The Kempner Fund does not fund:
    • Fundraising events or benefits
    • Direct mail solicitations
    • Galas or individual memorials
    • Grants to individuals
    • Grants to non-USA based organizations
    • Lobbying efforts, as defined by the Internal Revenue Service
